The Story Behind Rader K9:
Rader K9 was never supposed to become a business. I wasn't trying to start a company or build a brand—I was trying to solve problems. While working my K9 in the Middle East, I quickly learned that some of the equipment available simply wasn't designed for the realities of the job. One of the first things I noticed was the noise. Traditional slip collars rattled, and while that wasn't much of a concern on a training field, it was something I couldn't ignore when quiet mattered. I needed a collar that did everything a slip collar was supposed to do without announcing our presence, so I built one. That collar eventually became the first Rader K9 Silent Slip Collar.
As time went on, new challenges continued to shape the equipment. Carrying a 30-foot long line alongside everything else I needed wasn't practical, and asking a Black Hawk helicopter to swing back because I forgot my lead wasn't exactly an option. The answer wasn't to carry more gear—it was to build better gear. I designed a roll-up long line that packed tightly, deployed quickly, and stayed out of the way until I needed it. Looking back, that's really how every Rader K9 product has come to exist. None of them started with the question, "What can I sell?" They all started by asking, "What problem am I trying to solve?" If a product doesn't solve a real problem, I don't build it.
That philosophy hasn't changed. Every lead, collar, traffic tab, back tie, and piece of equipment that leaves my shop is still built one at a time by my own hands. There isn't a production line, a factory, or a team of employees behind the name. It's just me—a veteran who still believes quality comes from craftsmanship, experience, and refusing to cut corners. Every piece of webbing is cut by hand, every stitch has a purpose, and every finished product is something I'm willing to put my name on. When you buy from Rader K9, you're not buying something that came off an assembly line. You're buying equipment built by someone who has depended on it, believes in it, and takes pride in building it right. That's what Rader K9 has always been, and that's what it will continue to be.
